Ok, created rpm based on this tarball, with
make -C fonts fonts
line commented out, and while I got fewer of those Missing character
lines in *.log file:

the output is the same as before, instead of say (fh) pes there is (fei!h<) ,
instead of (,) minima there is (`), clef is missing altogether, etc.
But it is really weird, because if I look up e.g. the

\greglyph{\char 984066}{f}{h}{0}{}{}%
}%
U+F0402 glyph in the greciliae font, I see the correct podatus.

So, any hints (perhaps off-list) on how to debug this appreciated.
Perhaps I'm registering the fonts with tex wrongly or something, but why it
worked before just fine? Perhaps I can tomorrow after work try to git
bisect when things stopped working for me in between the New year and now.
