The difficulty with implementing what you're asking for is that in the current code base the commentary is not technically part of the score. It's simply text that is printed in a text box which has been pushed all the way to the right. This is why the \grecommentary command needs to be placed right before \gregorioscore (you can see this by placing a \grecommentary command randomly in your document). Implementing what you want would require some rejiggering to tie the commentary more closely to the score, much like the annotations are.

That's not to say that what you're asking for is impossible or even unreasonable. It's just going to require enough work that I don't think we can add it to 4.0. We're planning on going to release candidate status today or tomorrow (depending on how long it takes me to review the last few changes and then build the binaries) and that will involve a feature freeze (i.e. no new features added to 4.0 as it gets finalized for release).
