Eureka! I isolated the conflict. I discovered that the problem only occurs when I am running LaunchBar. When LaunchBar was running, I also had difficulty editing my client's CMS. AJAX Pop-up menus would flash and then disappear. In addition, I was unable to edit widgets in the Dashboard.
LaunchBar support at Objective Development asked me if I use a Wacom tablet. I don't usually, but after I connected the tablet and disabled Ink (Handwriting recognition), the problem went away. So the issue seems to be isolated to a conflict between LaunchBar, handwriting recognition and certain UI elements.
