Yes, the notification originates from Growl. However once you send it to NC
you effectively are using NC as the display. So your only settings are in
NC for how to control it.

As far as I'm aware the only settings you have are like the ones in the
screenshot here: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT204079

I don't have two macs to reproduce this with on mojave, but I do believe
the setting you are looking for so that the notification stays until
acknowledged is Banners. Give that a try without the applescript. That's
the only thing I can think of other than what you've already done. Like I
said I don't know that you can't really control it that much since there
aren't many options. But after thinking about it I really think the banner
option is what you're after.
