You may want to try adding the line
  
  set gnuplot35 = 'gnuplot'; # use gnuplot version 3.5 syntax

in your command file. I don't know how much gstat relies on
post 3.6 features of gnuplot these days; a better alternative 
would be installing the new 3.7.1 gnuplot release, available 
from http://www.gnuplot.org/
