Don’t talk about use of LLMs. Writings by LLM are a problem, not use. Hints given by consulting LLM on packages code cannot be, since according to c’t magazine, all the Web search engines internally used language models for query interpretation since a long time ago.
This is the biggest problem I have with the pledge, I don't understand what is and is not included. And I don't want to pledge it if I don't understand it.
I read the pledge as intending that we would not use any search engines that would show us an AI-generated snippet. Because to me that clearly would be "using genAI".
Half of the argumentation is that using genAI is bad for the environment and is enabling fascism. It does not matter that the genAI is hidden behind a search engine for those arguments to matter.
It would help me if the pledge would be more explicit about whether e.g. we should disable any AI-assisted results in search engines. I think that is a bit out of scope for such a pledge though.
