SUB; RECOGNITION FOR KONKANI IN ROMAN SCRIPT
(1) The issue of recognition for Konkani in Roman script has been gaining
momentum. The
Dalgado Konknni Akademi and TKK Porvorim are spearheading the movement with
the active
support of Konkani in Roman script writers.
(2) Unless Devnagiri and Roman script flourish side by side in Goa, Konkani
can never
flourish.
(3) 18 years have lapsed since the Official Language Act 1987 was passed and
the wards of
Catholic community were made "guinea pigs in the Devnagiri script
laboratories" viz 125 diocesan run Schools due to:
a) the sly cunning designs of a section of the Hindu bretheren who
discreetly became the sole beneficiaries vis a vis employment prospects
being familiar with the Devnagiri script
b) the gullible present Mormugao Parliamentary Constituency Mr Churchill
Braz Alemao who then fell prey to their machinations
and
c) the Church as well .....etc etc etc

Dear Godfrey
First of all, please allow me to commend you for the tremendous work you are
doing for Goa and Goans.
I'd also like to agree with the sentiments expressed by Samir Kelekar and
Hrishikesh Shenoy.
This IS about politics, economics and control. It has very little to do with
Language, Love of Language, script or even good sense.
The anti-Konkani lobby (which I believe is synonymous - with the
Maharashtrawadi chaps still
smarting from the Opinion Poll slap) have been steadfast at their post:
Their objective was to destroy Konkani by effectively converting Konkani
into a Bad Sounding
Nasal Dialect of Marathi and written in Devanagri AND calling that
convolution -> Konkani or
Kokni. This would result in the main protagonists of Konkani getting quite
disenchanted and
switch off to English.
Did they succeed?
One does not have to be Einstein to understand that. ALL these Maratwadis
had to do was to
use the template devised by the fellas who destroyed the Indian language
Urdu in Pakistan and India. Those anarchists deSanskritized Urdu-Hindi in
Pakistan and concocted Official URDU. Their counterparts in India
dePersianised Urdu-Hindi and concocted official HINDI.
Accordingly, the official HINDI today is NOT the Hindi spoken by the vast
number of people in India in the early 1900s, and the official URDU is NOT
the Urdu spoken by the vast number of Urdu speaking people (Nehru included)
in India pre 1947.
What happened in Goa is NO different. The Maharashtrawadis very upset with
that 1966 thapott, went about their task of decapitating Portuguese words
from Konkani. As though language grows in isolation and sans external
influences.
ASK YOURSELF: Which pair of phrases are you more likely to hear in
households which made it
possible for Konkani to be recognised in Goa?
(a) Mae, Aiz aum iscolak vossonam. Faleam maka ek vhodli ezam asa
(b) Aiee gah, Aiz hanv shallek votchonam. Faleam maka ek vhodli pariksaha
asa
The so called Konkani Mogis beat their breasts unlimited and cry out loud
(in English) : "I don't know why Goans speak English at functions instead of
Konkani. They are ashamed of their own MOTHER tongue"
To those alleged Mogis, I'd say this:
1. PLEASE check your doctor. You might be suffering from tunnel vision!
2. You guys who claim that Konkani is our mother tongue, have been
systematically destroying
the language our mothers spoke. and speak.
3. That stuff which you guys have imposed on Goans in the name of Konkani IS
VERY DIFFERENT
from the Konkani we speak at home.
4. Even Mr. Parrikar was open enough to state that "One needed a dictionary
to understand
the alleged Konkani written in" that Supar-whatever noojpaper.
4. Please understand why Bombay-Hindi has become what it is. Grown people
don't appreciate artificial impositions!
Now, Godfrey, you have listed the right DAFTs and CROOKs in the list of
people who have worked against the development of Konkani.
I am surprised that you are surprised about Churchill. Did you expect
anything else?
The church under Bishop Raul engaged in a masterful exercise of self
flagellation. No other result was expected from that.
There are however one other entity whose role in the REVISION (by
DECAPITATION) of Konkani
should be remembered i.e. The Konkani Bhasha Mandal.
The Konkani Kendra and Konknni Akademi may wish to review whether its
actions are beneficial or detrimental to the ultimate development of
Konkani.
I support structure and standardization but NOT decapitation. Even the
English language is adapting to 2005 and the realities of multi-cultural
influences. No wonder it is growing.
BTW: If all and sundry are fighting for the Romi Script to write a BAD
sounding Nasal dialect which has been ENGINEERED for economic and political
reasons by the Marathi and Maharashtra lobby..... I wish you all well in
your struggle.
In the mean time: I'd be quite happy to speak English and Marathi.
