| Kullvaar Celebrates 'Konkani Day' - A Thumping Success | ||

This motivated the Konkani population all over the world to work together with a rejuvenated spirit for their language and culture in the recent years. This was true in the case of the Gulf countries also. Love towards their mother tongue has made Konkani-speaking people spend their valuable free time towards the cause of their language.
Konkani Kullvaar has created a storm in Kuwait by promoting the Konkani cause, without expecting returns. Under the able leadership of Lancy Pinto Nayak, Johny Surathkal and other members, Konkani Kullvaar has been providing the much-needed Konkani cultural and literary knowledge to the interested community members. To mark Konkani's inclusion into the VIII Schedule in the Constitutution Indian national languages, Konkani Kullvaar organized a full-day programme, which went beyond everyone's expectations and was a thumping success. a sizeable number of community members gathered to celebrate a day called 'Konkani Day' on Friday, August 19, 2005 in Don Bosco Hall, Salmiya. As a mark of salute to Konkani language, a one-day seminar was organized (from 10 am to 3.30 pm) to guide the aspirants in various fields of Konkani art and literature such as: Seminar on news items The morning session was conducted by Shaan Bondel, Johny Suratkal and Lancy Pinto Nayak. The seminar extended into the felicitation of two eldest achievers in Konkani, Gibba Kulshekar (Mangalorean) and Rosary Ferns (Goan) in the evening. Rudy Omzoor and Ida D`Silva gave a brief introduction of these personalities. Lawrence Pinto and Elvino Rodrigues were the guests for the evening. The evening session commenced with a warm welcome and a short briefing by Lancy Pinto Nayak. The special attraction of the evening was a short skit `Business, written by Janet Almeida, with roles played by Johny Suratkal and Janet Almeida. Melodious songs from Rony DCunha, Gratian DSouza, Ivan Almeida, Vandana, Telma, Rosary Ferns, Lolita, Lancy Rodrigues and other members mesmerized the crowd. Music from Joyson, Melwin and Lloyd was equally captivating. The programme came to an end at 7.30 pm with a raffle draw and prizes to the highest seller followed by a vote of thanks proposed by David Tallur. The song rendered by Gratian - Roseline moja mogachen . - was repeated on public demand followed by Baila session. The programme was well compered by Johny Suratkal. An exhibition of Konkani books and periodicals was the special attraction of the day. |
