I don't think so.  The stream's warnings certainly haven't woken me up.

If the booksense warns you with a voice, at the same volume as the
voice of the book you've been reading, then it shouldn't wake you
anymore than the book reading itself would.

If you didn't fall asleep, it's much easier to be notified that the
sleep timer is about to shut off the machine and do something about
it, than to have to turn the machine back on.
