Not that anyone cares, but my wife uses a fan year around and I can hear volumes 1 through 5 on both headphones and internal speakers. Of course it's better with headphones and if I use the Sony Bluetooth ones, it's even better because they have their own amplification. When I use the low volumes without headphones, I have to have the BookSense up to my ear or very close, but it's doable and no, I'm not a person with super hearing. Someone wrote me privately yesterday saying he's got good hearing and that the volumes are still not good. My hearing is good and I think they are ok. What does this mean, simply that volume, like synthesizers, is subjective. What is an acceptable level for one might not be for the other.

All that being said, I truly wish for a better way to handle the volumes without breaking other things. As I mentioned in a prior message I wrote, I think the solution is to adjust independent volume levels, 1 for the TTS and 1 for the general output. In addition, some sort of AGC if possible would help with things like NLS.

Just so everyone is clear, this is high on the priority list of things to enhance.

Many thanks.

Wow dude if you can hear the unit volume 1 through 5 using FW 2.0 then you

Actually volumes 1 through 5 are quite useful when I am lying in bed with my
wife and I don't want to either wake her, or to wear head phones. OK,
that's about all of my night life you're going to hear about.<smile>.
Small speakers can only take so much volume. They are adjusted to maximum
sound levels for the speakers and not adjusted because we may simply want
them louder. I do sympathize with people who would like more volume from
them, but I'm afraid you will have to wear headphones if you really want to
hear at loud volumes.

GW Micro stated this causes problems with the internal speakers. do you
want louder volume at the risk of blowing out your speakers and having to
send the unit back to HMS for repair?

I'd rather not have my speakers prematurely blown out by too loud of volumes
applied to them. I heard many times on the 1.1 settings where the speakers
rattled a lot. This isn't a good thing.

Agreed. The maximum volume most definitely needs to be bumped up again. It
still meets my needs, but only just. I have to walk very slow on tredmill to

still hear the built in speaker on max volume. Before, could walk a bit
faster.
There's got to be a way to get the best of both worlds. Agree about volume's

1 through 5; are't even worth mentioning; might as wel be muted.
Still, I'm not complaining. I love my booksense as much as ever, and am
extremely happy with all the new features; if only this volume thing could
be resolved to meet everyone's needs.
With all that being said, though, I completely agree with what Raul said
earlier today. Let's just all sit back, relax, have a merry Christmas and
enjoy the new firmware for a little while before we really start picking it
apart too much.

Hi,

Just fired up 2.0.

Right off the bat I want it known that HIMS definitly over compensated on
the speaker volume adjustmens.

Speaker Volume levels 1 to 5 are now so low that they are all vut useless
unless your a mouse!

Maximum volume is still OK however, the BS volume advantege over the stream
is no longer a selling point.

The issue with the volume in beta 1.1 was the discrepancy between speaker
volume level 5 and 6.

All HIMS should have done was bring levels 1 through 5 up a notch, then they
would have been spot on, and the issue would have been closed.

As it stands in 2.0, there is no doubt in my mind that another external
volume adjustment is still required for a future release.
Again,
Bring levels 6 through 20 back to version 1.1
Increase levels 1 through 5 in line with higher incraments.

Now back to my testing LOL!

KG.
