I'm not sure why people think the microphone would be still on or hot if something is plugged in the mike jack. The way we're wanting it to work is that even if you have line in selected, when you unplug the cable it would still record from the internal mike. Now, you have to switch back to microphone. I haven't seen the circuit, Dan could advise, but in most of these things, tape recorders and the like, the internal mike is wired to a contact that is disconnected whenever a cable is plugged in the mike jack. You've got two things going on here, one is level control by the internal firmware, and the other is direct switching on the mike jack itself. I just tried it, and it is as I thought, as soon as you plug anything into the mike jack, the internal mike is disconnected. I think people are making this way more complicated than it really is. Personally, I don't think it is that big a deal to just switch to mike 73

if that is what I want. On Tue, 23 Feb 2010, Bryan Bashin wrote:

Raul,

The occasional failure to record because line in is selected is a problem. But the solution of always having the internal microphone on would also be a problem. Imagine using an external microphone in the line in position and having the extra noise from handling the Book Sense, operating the controls and general environmental noise when what you really want is input only from the line in microphone. I suggest that you retain the microphone, line in options and simply add another option, "both" for those who must have this feature.

There is another solution to the problem of getting no recording when line in is selected but there , is no device connected to it. One could make the speaker emit a warning beep or have the unit say "no line in source" if recording is started and no audio detected after a certain period of time.

No. Currently if you want to use the internal microphone, it must be set to microphone. We will try to make it so that you can use the internal microphone no matter the setting, but this is not the current behavior as of today.

Many thanks.
