One can place NLS books in the appropriate Daisy/NLS folder on a flash drive
and it will be read properly by both the Book Sense and the new NLS players.
The book sense places folders on your flash drive. If you then download a
few books to the flash drive and place them in the NLS folder, any of the
books can be read by either machine. This might be useful for anyone who
starts a book on one device and must switch to the other for completing the
book.

Subject: [GW-Booksense] NLS Cartridges on the Book Sense
Hi Russ and all,
To put the question of whether or not the Book Sense would play a book on
an NLS cartridge from the regional library to the test, I put it to a test
a little while ago.
First, if you only have the short cable that you get with the Book Sense,
you are *NOT* going to attach the cartridge to the Book Sense!
The end of the cable into which you would insert a flash drive will not
accept the NLS cartridges due to the fact that, on the cartridge, the USB
plug is surrounded by part of the cartridge as a sort of shield, and the
end of the cable is too fat to slide into the space surrounding the USB
plug on the cartridge.
I attached an extension cable to the cartridge and then plugged that into
the short cable and then into the Book Sense.
When I turned on my Book Sense, it acted as though I had just plugged in a
flash drive and gave me the door bell sound.
When I switched over to the flash drive by holding the zero key down, it
appeared as though I were actually looking at a flash drive and could
actually move through the various modes and folders that the Book Sense
creates for us on media.
However, the message "No List" was given upon opening any of the folders.
Nowhere did I hear that I could play the book that was on the cartridge!
The Book Sense could not and cannot see such books as they are on the root
of the cartridge and not in the Daisy/NLS folder!
Therefore the one true answer to the question "Can you play NLS cartridges
on the Book Sense?", even if you wanted to do so, is "NO!"
I really see no point in doing so in any case, as it is very easy to
transfer the book from the cartridges to an SD card using the computer!

Have you actually connected an nls cartridge from your regional library
to the booksense and it played?

Yes, I'm sure the booksense will not play nls cartridges.
Yes it will, given the correct USB cable. It will not, however, copy them
over to its internal flash or
SD card.
