Yes, that is a 4th solution -- something like Jupiter Jack for the cell phone. Is there an analagous solution for an mp3 player? Or maybe the JJ could be adapted to work with the booksense. --le

The newer cars are starting to put in line inputs and/or USB inputs since some many folks are using portable MP3 players. If you don't have a newer car with these inputs or a cassette deck, you may also be able to purchase a device which will hook up to your portable music player (the the Booksense) and transmit the signal to your car's FM radio via an FM signal. Often these aren't as clean and may be noisey, but if there is no other option you may want to consider this. --Pete -----Original Message----- From: qubit [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: Wednesday, March 17, 2010 3:17 PM To: Christopher Chaltain; [email protected] Subject: Re: [GW-Booksense] BookSense in the car Yes, I have seen this -- The dummy cassette with the audio plug for your player, whatever it may be, works quite well, and is inexpensive--maybe around $14. But it is only useful if your car stereo has a cassette player in it. If not, then logic would dictate there must be a USB connector or even an audio line-in to the stereo, but since when did logic rule over expedience?*smile* Ask your nearest sightling if there is a connector present and what kind. Now you've got me curious. I am thinking of our family's car stereo. Since I will be using the booksense instead of the NLS cassette player, I will want to connect it to the stereo as well, for the times the driver wants to listen to the book as well. The booksense has a nice loud and clear speaker on it and a good volume control. But when you are riding fast on the freeway with noisy trucks passing all around you, you really need something louder. Oh, but I did get the booksense to work with my bluetooth capable hearing aids. That is a trip! I can listen to the book at a clear volume while still hearing surrounding sound well enough not to be a zombie... Very nice. Very few bugs to shake out. Happy listening. --le ----- Original Message ----- From: "Christopher Chaltain" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Wednesday, March 17, 2010 11:47 AM Subject: RE: [GW-Booksense] BookSense in the car Depends a lot on your car stereo. If your car stereo has an audio input jack then you can do what Candie did. If your car stereo has a USB connector then it probably also has a media player and you can plug the Booksense in through the USB port. The car stereo should recognize the media on the Booksense and let you play it. I doubt this will be accessible though, although since you'll be in the car, there'll probably be a sighted pilot who could punch up what you want to hear. Another option, assuming you have a cassette deck, is to buy a device that will let you connect the Booksense in through your cassette deck. This looks like a cassette tape with a audio jack hanging off the end. You should be able to buy this through any electronics store. Note that I've done both options 1 and 3 above. I haven't had a car with a USB port in it yet. -- Christopher [email protected] -----Original Message----- From: Candie Stiles [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: Wednesday, March 17, 2010 11:20 AM To: Karly A. One end goes into the headphone jack on the book sense, and the other goes into the jack on the car stereo. On Mar 17, 2010, at 11:58 AM, Karly A.
