I always use the desktop layout for all my machines, whether they are
desktops, laptops, or netbooks. this is why the MSI Wind netbook was not
a keeper for me in December. Their way of implementing the fn-key with
the embedded numpad is not standard in the least and I didn't want to
use an external numberpad or change the hot key layout. So I no longer
have that machine. In all other aspects however, it is a great netbook.
Had the keyboard issue not been an issue, I would have kept it.

Hi Raul and All,
You're sure right about using the FN key, rather than using the laptop keyboard
layout! And, I can't help but be a bit surprised that this option isn't
mentioned in the Window-Eyes tutorial or WE manual. But, rather, they both
appear to just mention that there are other layouts available, but they will be
concentrating on the desktop layout.
Anyway, ever since I noticed a few months ago you mentioning the FN key as a
way to use a laptop or sub notebook with WE, I had been meaning to try that for
myself, as I just couldn't seem to get the laptop or JFW layouts to make all
that much sense to me, as I just somehow couldn't put it all together in my
mind. But, over this last weekend, I listened to Doug's great tutorial for WE,
while at the same time having WE running and performing the keystrokes myself,
and things just started to come together and make sense for me. In addition,
having that key describer so i could ensure myself of just which key was which
when using the FN key, was extremely helpful as well.

Hi. I'd recommend using the desktop keyboard with this fine machine. You
can then hold down the fn key, it's the second key from the left, just
to the right of the control key. While held down, use 7 8 9 for numpad 7
8 9, u i o for numpad 4 5 6, and j k l for numpad 1 2 3. So, to move the
mouse to the top-left, hold down fn key and press the number 7. To read
the current line under the mouse, holding fn key, press the letter i.
Hope this helps.
