Observe, the world is flat, man will never walk on the moon, blind people can't live on their own, Peta says blind people shouldn't have guide dogs it's cruel and if blind people need guides well maybe society should guide them and keep the service animals out of it. Today's dreams are tomorrow's realities--I know just in my life time I've seen incredible shifts in technology as well as even social atitudes. I remember when blind peoplehad problems renting apartments, when parents who were blind could and did loose children just because "blind people are unfit parents" I know sometimes such things still happen but not like they used to. I know the squeaky wheel gets the oil whether you like or agree with this it's fact blind or not the squeaky wheel gets the oil. If we don't learn to advocate for ourselves who will do it for us pray tell?

So my answer to you is: Maybe because that just isn't so.
Maybe things can be changed and in fact have.
For example when Albertson's supermarket came online like Vons pavillion and others they were inaccessible but I wrote them andtold them the "blind"are a major shopping minority" but they do shop and Albertsons listened. I was ask to test the site and they introduced an accessible one which I used when I lived in their delivery area, I also walked to the store near me and bought stuff and still shop at Albertson's today. Had I said nothing and I didn't do it through an organization I did it solo perhaps that might not have happened.

A year ago Twitter MySpace and FaceBook had capcha I know for sure Facebook is working with us as is Myspace and Myspace just changed. Also I know for a fact that what keeps things secure one day is destroyed by a hack the next day. So many people say it just involves the blind why make noise.Consider the space program a major contribution of the space program is spin off benefits in medicine, technology and even in basic things like zip lock bags. Similarly technologies that bring help to the blind can have spin off affects, consider the talking calculator that originally sold for $500 from TSI but calculators and talking clocks now can be purchased for $10 to $25 spin off did that. As other markets were created the cost droped.

A couple hundred years ago blacks were considered "half a person" and "Security issues" kept them down but not any more. Life is fluid things change security issues change even their definitions change.
And, if you don't say anything who will even notice what changes you need.
Maybe you can claim super blind status if you like but I'd rather make money entering surveys entering sweepstakes and getting good employment oportunities rather than being blocked. You do what you have to do and look down your nose if that's necessary it won't stop me from informing anyone who will listen and trying to rockour world. When it does and we make those inroads such as the kendell 2 reader don't even supose you should reap the benefits. But you will and the security changes that are made you will enjoy too and we won't get as much as a thank you in fact some how you will find a way to take the credit if you can or give it to some well meaning person who wishes to undeservedly claim it.
No matter I will benefit too so do as you must.
Have a great day.
Mike

Oh god. The world has to revolve around the blind doesn't it? Why can't some people just accept that some things can't be changed due to security issues. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Michael Peterson" <[email protected]>

Hi Robert. I've seen petitionsabout myspace which is eliminating capcha's for it's users though you need a cellphone and it doesn't eliminate the initial capcha. Conversations have also been held with Facebook and I'm not sure what has happened with twitter. I did see an application for twitter that is suposed to make it "more blind friendly and if I can find it I will post to the list. The capcha problem is way beyond social networks and the firefox program will work for some capcha's not all. Today I was submitting a note to a site for website submission after having submitted to the directory via it's submission form. They contacted me and told me because of the large amount of spam they receive it was necessary for me to use the contact form on the front page. I wrote my note and was ready to send when from beyond the blue came the following: Enter the verification code as it is shown in the box below. This helps prevent automated
submissions.

SubmitWonderful! Guess I have to snag a sighted visitor as many of these are put together in such a way that my wife who has some sight in one eye can't read thWWe need some way that permits any screen reader using any browser to read the capcha's or something. An employer might not want two browsers on his network and he might like iE 8.
If my job includees such things as search engine submission
Oh well back to the unemployment line/maybe.

Oh did I suggest getting rid of protection schemes? Uh, no, I didnt. What I did suggest however, and I will rephrase it, is that if these developers who cook up these schemes were to put on blindfolds, the Internet might be a bit more blind friendly.

But Jim, if you rather do all the adapting in all areas, have at it. In a backward sense, it s the easier path to follow.

By the way, no need to preach about Internet safety. I am all too aware of the pitfalls and traps and all that await the unwary. LOL
