Hi and Happy New Year to each and every one here on the list, and
also to the staff at GW-Micro Inc.,
First of all I want to thank very much everyone of you who has so
graciously responded to my original request. I have learned a lot
more on many points on what to pay attention to, what's good and
what's not so good when buying a laptop. You are all the best!
Chip, you mentioned that you are going to get a ThinkPad. I didn't
know that they even still made them. My old ThinkPad's basic
functions are still working. However, because it was built in 2000,
it has become pretty much useless for my needs so I gave it to a
nephew. He does his writing on it in Word. I really liked it a
lot. I even dropped it once in a classroom onto a very hard floor.
Nothing broke on it or flew off of it but I needed to resnap the
speakers covers and it acted like nothing ever happened to it. That
happened in o2 and like I said it is still working! Anyway, I
understand you are a WE user? Well then, here comes a thousand
questions for you. <grin>
Looking at the ThinkPad, do you feel that it's layout satisfys all WE
user needs? I. e. All of the needed keys are there? And in the
right places for WE functionality? The mouse pad if there is one is
easy to shut off and turn on? Can you shut off the screen and leave
it off while working? Does it have a pretty good battery on it? How
do the speakers sound to you. Do you know if they make a model that
has the number pad on it?
I know I need to go somewhere, (where I don't know right now), to
physically check one out for myself, but I respectfully appreciate
your input because I know you had one before. And I also respect and
appreciate everyone on the list who has offered helpful advice. I'm
not settled on any one brand or product yet, but I am all ears to
your suggestions, and I will let you all know what I decide on when
that time comes. This is something I am not rushing into, for one
reason because I am buying two of them, one for my wife too, although
she has her own needs and ideas as well, as she is sighted and would
probably want something in a warm and apealing color. <smile>
Thanks and multiplied blessings to all throughout 2010!

Hi Bob,
oh, I absolutely agree, I'm going to buy myself a netbook one day in
addition to my laptop. but some people only have the money for one, so I
was trying to suggest if it's got to do everything; then I'm still onboard
with the laptop as your best over-all choice. it won't be as good as a
desktop at some things, and it won't be as good as a netbook at others, but
it's the most versatile choice I believe.

Hi,
I own an Asus eeepc1005hap netbook, and I love it. It ways under three
pounds and gets over 10 hours battery life on a charge. You can't do a lot
of multi tasking, but that is not something that I'm going to do on the go.
I use it for listening to internet radio, making skype contacts, email, and
listening to other streaming content. It plays YouTube videos too without a
problem. I also bought a small external dvd player/burner that is powered
off the USB port and it works great also. A netbook can not replace your
main computer, but for a carry anywhere, use anywhere rugged computer with
GREAT battery life, you can't beat them!
