Are you sure that both sticks of RAM are connected? If 4GB of RAM is installed, you should see approximately 3.5 available. Aside from the amount of usable RAM, the other main constraint you are likely to encounter is driver compatibility. If your hardware doesn't have 64-bit drivers available, then don't upgrade. Most newer devices have 64-bit drivers now, but many older components donpt. Research every piece of equipment that you use now, or intend to connect later to be sure it will run on a 64-bit OS.

Steve

I'm trying to figure out why my present 32-bit Windows Seven setup sees One
point Nine Seven GB of RAM, where as it does report a total of Four GB
installed.Would a sixty four-bit system help with this?Beyond that being a
constraint, I don't know what else is.

It's possible to create a DVD that holds both versions, but the official
(non-OEM) discs from Microsoft are either one or the other. If I want 32-bit
Windows 7, I use the 32-bit DVD; likewise for the 64-bit version.
That isn't to say you couldn't install a 32-bit copy of Win7 onto a 64-bit
machine, because you can. But by doing so, you have to deal with the same
constraints of a 32-bit computer.

Steve

Not all of the Windows 7 installation cds has both 32 and 64 bit
versions. I thought so until I ran int one just recently that was only
the 32 bit version. This may have to do with the fact that it was an
OEM version that came with a computer that was a 32 bit system.

"The product key has nothing to do with whether or not the version
of Windows you install is 32-bit or 64-bit. It will, however,
determine which edition of Windows you end up running, such as Home
Premium, Professional, Ultimate, etc. The installation media itself
has either 32-bit or 64-bit code, so you will need to have a 64-bit
installation DVD if you want 64-bit Windows 7.

Dont think so. The dvd I got includes both 32 and 64 bit.
