sorry; I was out sick today, and Word 2010 is at my work, so my answer will have to be based on it, and wait til Monday.
otherwise, I have Word 2003 at home, and haven't had this issue. have you checked to see if the dialog is maximized? unmaximized dialogs do account for a lot of non-speaking weirdness. thanks for this and the other reply. I'm back with Word7 with the Microsoft add on to open other document types, and the file name edit box in the "Save as" dialogue has never read properly, by which I mean that the whole thing reads if I tab to it, but I can't review the text with the arrow keys, so I always have to write the whole file name since I can't edit it. I'm sure this is fixable if I knew how to do it. Basic guidance please.
