Thanks Chip. OK, first basic question. I obviously know how to maximise the main window, but I don't see any means of confirming the status of individual dialogues. How do I do that? Right now, in the file name edit box, the arrow keys will speak the first character the first time I address the box. After that, it speaks no characters at all, not even the first one. I get around this by making sure I'm at the beginning of the box and then I can type the whole file name, being sure that the old name will be erased. I can then tab away from the box and back to it, so Window-Eyes will read the whole thing, which it does just fine. It just won't read individual characters. Don't know if that identifies my problem any better.
