Just be aware, the Nircmd software has had some reports of malware, from a
couple of anti-malware packages. If you want to install it, make sure to scan
it thoroughly first. I had it installed on my system, and had some trouble.
After uninstalling the utility, the system is a bit more stabil, and my
Anti-softwre does not complain any more.

Just wanted to let you all know, of a potential risky piece of software.

   Hi Vic,

Have a search for a free utility called nircmd. It does a lot of things
(using commandline parameters), including setting the volume and mute state of
the sound card. I have a shortcut to it in my startup folder, so that it
executes for me each time the system is booted, and I have it setup to unmute
the sound and restore the volume to a reasonable level. here's the command
with the parameters I am using:

  nircmd.exe mutesysvolume 0

<you'll need to specify the full path to nircmd in your shortcut>

Unfortunately, I don't think there's a script to do this for you, although I
know Jamal is distributing nircmd as part of one of his scripts, for some other
reason, so it would be possible to do this using this utility.

  hth,

  Chip

  Subject: Un Mute Scripts

Greetings scripting gurus. After a simple search for a specific script, I was
not successful in finding one that sets the volume control. What I am
interested in is a script that will check the status of the volume settings
when Window-Eyes is called up.

If I am away from work on vacation a visitor from another office might use my
PC here at work. Then when I return I don't have sound, because they have
checked the mute box in volume control or lowered the levels. It seems that
Windows sets this globally for all accounts.

This even happens at home on the PC my wife and I use. She may turn down the
volume and forget to put it back. This has happened on our Netbook.

So when I come across this problem, I have to find a person with enough
vision to help out. Memorizing the key strokes is a hit and miss affair.

If anyone knows if such a script exists, let me know. I will also need to
know what keywords are required for me to find it.
