This is not really appropriate for this list however if someone has
information they could email me off list about this I'd appreciate it.
I got a Dectalk Express on Ebay last year. It was listed as "as is" and
I don't think the seller had any knowledge of it or were pretending they
didn't. I knew the risks and given the price I paid it was a gamble I
took. Either way it never worked. Just won't turn on. Nevertheless I
did disassemble it and found the battery pack inside which clips on to
the board with a two-prong square plastic connector. I disconnected the
battery from the board and the unit still will not power. Does there
have to be a new battery installed? If so I'd get a local dealer to
construct me a battery based on this one. Or if it won't power without
the battery does that indicate that it is completely dead?
Would like to get this thing working if I can, or to get ahold of
an external synthesizer other than the Keynote Gold SA that is more
widely recognized.
Thanks,
Cory

That's the deal with the DecTalk express. Once the battery is
completely dead it will not run on AC power until the battery is
removed.

Try to take the battery out and see if it works on the AC
power. If it does, There is your DecTalk problem solved. You
might want to search around for a DecTalk express if you want one.

Hi,
Yea! Its been around for a long time. The battery was
already bad the last time I used it and that was 7 or 8
years ago. I don’t even know why I kept it this long..
I’ve been thinking of buying a new one just havn’t done it
yet.

You should be able to use the converter to run the
DoubleTalk. You would have to check the status on the
Dectalk though since the battery may not be working
anymore. You might be able to get a new battery built but,
we are talking over at least 16 years old for the DecTalk
synthesizer that is an express.

Hi Pam,
I don’t know it’s an old one that I haven’t used in
over 10 years.
I’ve got an old dectalk express but it hasn’t seen
daylight in close to 10 years too.

Can you use a converter to plug in your doubletalk? Pam.
