Hi Robin.
I have an HP laptop as my main PC. I can't remember the model it is, but it's three years old. It has a keyboard with the numeric keypad, but I don't like it for the same reason you've mentioned. What I've done with all my laptops is use an external keyboard. In fact, just last week I purchased a Logitech keyboard that uses a USB port on your PC. I was using a wireless keyboard, but it's range was less than what I get with the USB keyboard using an extension cable, plus its layout was not good. The keyboard I got costs $13 at WAL-MART, and I'm enjoying it. Just my thoughts. Good luck with whatever you decide.
