Hi. You can get small location dots which will not hit the laptop screen. I use them on my netbook keyboard and my laptop keyboard. I got mine from Second Sense in Chicago. They come in a little pack of six. You can get clear ones or there are also orange ones that can be seen by partially sighted people. On my netbook I put the dots on 1 and 0 of the number row, F4 and F8 on the function key row, and also the enter and backspace. I didn't need them on the insert because it's easy to find. If you use a laptop without a numpad the new laptop layout is really nice. The capslock key behaves like the insert key. No matter how you slice it, laptops can be interesting because each model can be different. ----- Original Message ----- From: [email protected] To: [email protected] Sent: Tuesday, November 05, 2013 4:10 PM Subject: OT: keyboard question
HI all, My fingers are getting very confused. I have a new work laptop, a plug in keyboard for it at work and at home, my home desktop and I"m in the market for a new home laptop. All 4 keyboards have different locations for the insert key, page up and down, home, end. etc. I use these keys so much for WE and standard navigation, but my muscle memory is not helping me hit the right keys. I've added little puff paint type dots to keyboards in the past, but I think those will hit the screen on laptops. I'm wondering if anyone else has any recommendations for adhesive or other labeling techniques for some of these important keys that aren't in standard places. For my new home PC, I'm looking at Toshiba laptops right now because they seem to offer better spacing for the arrow keys and they have a 10-key pad built in, even on some 15 inch screen models. I'm not thrilled with my new HP work laptop where all the keys are so tightly packed together. Any other pros or cons anyone can offer on keyboard considerations by brand? I'm hesitant to even consider a laptop I haven't been able to touch first, for this reason. Thanks in advance.
