No simple view simply shows less information in the contact list views. This does not affect screen reader users do to the fact the same information is provided by Microsoft active accessibility. You need to have split windows turn on. This is the contact view settings in older versions of skype.

Second for these keys to work you must turn on compact or split window view. The name of this option was changed in skype 6.22 and later.
