I too, would very much appriciate, if anyone have a simple solution to this question. Yet, I want to share the couple of choices I have had to deal with, in my translation activity lately.

First of all, last time I checked in, the Google translator is still operative. That is, the service no longer can be called from any third-party software - for free - but still can be operated from the webpage environment. Try go to
   http://translate.google.com
, and see if you can get it to work. It definitely is not as easy as the TranslateLanguage app, but for a driven user it is somehow doable. Yet, until GW releases an upgraded version of their browse mode, there is a few things that is quite tricky on the site, like changing language, as WE does not recognize the control for doing this, as a control at all.

I did have a look at a service called Babylon. I cannot stress strongly enough, to what extend I recommend you stay away from that stuff. It is overloaded with malware, the providers taking no liability for the inconvenience, and is just about impossible to get rid of again; when you have done your playing. So again, don't you touch Babylon's translation services, no matter what they promise you; unless you are extremely eager to have yourself and your system exposed to whatever trouble might come your way.

Depending on what languages you want to translate between, there is available different software, that you install locally on your computer. Some of them are quite accessible with WE, others are not. Best thing is, I guess, to find a software that sounds like what you want, and then ask if anyone has experience with that particular piece of software. I personally got one, called EasyTranslator, which I picked up from EBay, for only a very few dollars. It does translate between English, German, and I do think it was Italian. It proved to be quite accessible, although not fully as easy as the TranslateLanguage app. Good thing about EBay is, that you usually don't pay the shirt off, so even if the stuff proved not to meet your expectations, it still won't rip your bank account. And, if you - or anyone else - do find a good alternative, please let the community know.

At last, I want to mention that there is a few web-based services out there. For one, I know Webster has a simplified translator. If you do a search on the net, for something like:
   online English German translator
, and exchange the languages here with your preferrences, you should get a few hits. In general, I do find, that many of them are rather lacking, quite limited in the vocabulary, and not all of them are worth bothering. Be sure to turn on all your security system, as some of them could be risky. There is just too many ways, to make a service 'free of charge', these days. Smile.

Well, that was my experiences, so far. I am all eager ears, if anyone knows of a good alternative. Or, if someone would happen to know a good combination of maybe two or three solutions, that as a total would fill the needs of a translator.

And - just for a postscript here - let me mention that locally, one of the publishing houses for a printed version of their voccabulary between English and our local language, actually do offer the full version of their dictionary, as an online service, fully accessible with WE. Only drawback thereof, is that they do charge an anual fee, of something like $80 USD. You need to be rather frequently translating, if you want that kind of service. But it is at least worth a try, to go to well-known printing houses, and see if they have made their stuff available online.
