I have some files from similar set-ups that load fine in Gwyddion.

Rolf keeps the mac port pretty up to date, so it should be 2.16.  But
that probably does not matter in this case.

Anyway, you might want to update the port tree and upgrade Gwyddion,
you'll be rewarded by thumbnails in the data browser (among other
things).

Strange, this means

a) The files do not even start with ‘\*File list’ or ‘?*File list’.
b) Something went wrong with line-ends (the Gwyddion import module
   assumes CRLF, i.e. Microsoft, line-ends).

because in all other cases at least the file is recognized.

Definitely.  If you send them by e-mail, please send them compressed,
do not send giant scans and send them directly to my university address
[email protected].  The compressed part is especially important now
as many e-mail programs tend to mangle Nanoscope files, thinking they are
plain text.
