At the expense of my pride I must try to discourage using bamboo. I was young I 
didn't really know any better, and it was a bad idea. It splintered the first 
time I wore it. If you are looking for a cheap boning, I would use zip ties.

I'd be very leery of using bamboo.  It splinters very easily and such splinters 
pierce just about any fabric and can go into your flesh.
