Many of the branches we have[1] have either been merged back into
trunk and are no longer being developed (monolith, jqueryui15) or were
time specific (bughunt200809). This makes it difficult to know what
branches are active.

Is it a bad idea to create a branches/retired directory and move such
branches when appropriate ?
