Connie Kleinjans commented on HADOOP-1066:

Good feedback, thanks. If the intro text and the architectural diagram work,
that's great. They're aimed at a new visitor who might ask "What is this and
what makes it good?"
Adding a Download page: I completely agree. I put a link (but called Releases)
in the navigation column on the left. That might not have shown up until I got
the right CSS loaded. If you look at it again, remember that it just shows
structure; I'm assuming we'll have the look and feel of the Forrest template.
I can also beef up the Issue Tracking page.
I'm working on a trajectory for improving the site based on audience and some
usability concepts. This is just the first step, but it's the front page so
it's pretty visible.
> http://lucene.apache.org/hadoop/ front page is not user-friendly

> One of our tech writers has been looking at the state of Hadoop
> documentation, and suggests reworking the Hadoop front page to be more than
> just a release page (as it seems to be now).
> Especially in comparison with other other apache project pages, ours is
> uninviting to users unfamiliar with the premise of the project. She's
> suggesting updating the page to include more meta-information about the site,
> in addition to most of the links and news items currently on the page.
