If you are thinking of a HTC desire (I have one) I would say that the internal storage is rubbish, however the good news is that rooting and installing cyanogen mod 7 is really easy and with e2sd you can move your dalvik cache (android Java bit cache) to an ext partition and that frees up a huge amount of space. I do reccomend rooting (it is even easier before you have data to back up) it as you really run out of space quickly otherwise.
