GiffGaff piggybacks off of O2, so indeed if O2 has an issue Giffgaff may suffer too. Interestingly they are both owned by Telefónica so they are also in competition with each other but for the same parent. The difference with Gigggaff is that most of the support is done by other members who gain points for helping people. Only when you have a confidential account issue do you contact a member of staff. They are considered by the money saving websites to be the cheapest payg network, but if you need a contract style account, just select a recurring goodybag that automatically starts each month.
