Well, I didn't call every shop in town but no I didn't come across anything post-Win95 except NT4. Yeah, the Promise controller came with pretty much all Windows drivers except 3.1.

Geeks.com has a PCI NIC and old Vantec M64 PCI video card both with NT4 drivers for very little cash (~$25). I'm trying to repair the installation now because of error messages. The Control Panel add/remove function won't uninstall the Radeon drivers or [EMAIL PROTECTED] If I can get it fixed and find a version of Folding (I'm about to try installing the non-GUI consol version) that will run on it I'll send for those 2 cards and should have it up and running.

Just in case that doesn't pan out I'm currently downloading Mandriva 2006 but I know little about Linux and am reluctant to spend days trying to figure it out. I'll keep plugging away and eventually get it set up some how. I hate 16 color graphics <g>. @:)>

You couldn't even find a copy of Windows 2000?

I mean, security updates and support for somewhat modern hardware is nice. I'm amazed that the Promise controller had NT4 drivers.

I was looking for Win98se but couldn't locate a copy locally and Ebay auctions kept bidding toward XP prices and I gave that up too. A local shop had NT4 and I know from the Folding site that they have a version that runs on that. I didn't anticipate so many pitfalls to such an old OS. Makes me long for XP's no-brainer no fuss no muss installations. I originally had XP Home on this old beast and it was a simple and quick install from such old hardware. I haven't given up though as I'm finally past the install and SP6 update. Reducing the partition to 4 gigs and FAT did the trick. Now if I could just get the proper driver for my 3Com NIC to detect I should be set. Slowly but surely, step by step...

WindowsME would see the drive.
So would say, Mandrake2006.. Now free to download
Or LinspireFree

8 gigs is what the setup app created. Thanks for the info. @:)>

You said less than 8 gig, I could be wrong, but I thought

NT4 had to

be on less than a 4 gig partition for the OS?

Did you try one that small?? :)

I have this old PII 333 MHz 'puter that I'm trying to get up and running for [EMAIL PROTECTED] with an old copy of NT4 I picked

up locally.

The original 1997 hardrive died and I replaced it with a Promise ATA100 controller and a WD 800JB. NT won't install despite

repeated

efforts even on a <8 gig C: partition. It partitions Drive C just fine but chokes on the total size of the drive and won't go any further (neither NTFS or FAT file system makes any difference). I looked for a method of slipstreaming SP6 into it thinking

that would

upgrade it's ability to deal with modern sized disks but

apparently

that's not possible pre-Win2K. Does anybody have any ideas

on how I

might get this old OS installed on this old PC with a

modern drive so

I can give it a new reason to live? Hate to spend $ on the

overpriced

WinXP if I can help it. TIA and Happy Thanksgiving! @:)>
