[H] Case wiring: AC97 and HD Audio

Lots of cases have this connector that goes to the mobo to route earbugs 
and mic to the front panel. Does one need both connectors (I've only 
ever used one)?  Mine has each for each that seem to be wyed in 
together.  I'd like to nip one (AC97) off just to get a tidier look.
