Greg,
Thank you for your detailed (pair) of shares. I will go look/see.
I remain put off by LG (even from S. Korea), and/or Yamakasi.
Yes, I may miss an chance to own the NEW killer label.
I do understand the current 'best for least' baseline.
I have never played there. No plan to start either. I'll accept the
jabs should they arrive! My personal bad.

Sorta pushing for 24in diag. Until, the local power-grid dies, I
will research other choices. Local temp just reported as 110+.
Can not prove that at my 20, but I do see 99 w/o a breeze.
Weird Earth-Cycle we live in ATM.
Thanks,
Duncan

Sorry, sent a little too soon. Some other items about the Yamakasi:

-They're manufactured in South Korea, and usually have to ship from there
-They don't have a hardware scaler built in, so you need to feed it the
proper resolution
-Requires Dual-Link DVI for the resolution
-Some AMD GPUs aren't compatible due to some scaling oddness
-Not all ebay sellers include US-compatible power bricks, so be mindful of
that

Ultimately, you're paying for the panel and not much else. It's the same
underlying panel Apple uses on their 27" LED Cinema Display ($1000). HP has
a display based on it too ($700).

My brother actually picked up a different brand from a seller that does
individual unit testing. It's still the same panel and same caveats, but
they do include a suitable power brick for the destination country:

I haven't seen one in person and can't vouch for it personally, but it's a
popular topic on many enthusiast forums.

The 23" Dell U2312hm is in that same price range, but features a superior
eIPS panel instead of the TN film in the Planar. It is, of course, quite a
bit smaller.

Another alternative--bizarre as it sounds--is the Yamakasi Catleap Q270 SE.
It's a 27" 2560x1440 display with an LG H-IPS panel for under $300. It has a
cheap bezel and a cheap stand, but is an outstanding panel at an incredible
price. My brother just picked up three of them. eBay will be your best
source for these.

I bought this on a special from Dell for $215. It's not super special, but
it works well for my needs (and for that price):

ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1341073027&sr=8-1&keywords=planar+px2710mw

Planar PX2710MW 1920x1080. I've seen dell offer it several times at this
price. I might pick up another one the next time I see it. It is decent and
I like the price and size. I'm not a high-end graphics type, so this is
basic WP, surfing, etc. You can read review on Amazon and Newegg.

My old EIZO 21in glass-tube PC Monitor is going south. I expected this.
It has been a very crisp full-color display since 1997. I suspect the
Video section is sour; it is now 'trapezoid challenged' now. Top and
Bottom adjust OK. Left and Right not so well............ Fine.

Time for a 24in modern panel. So, looking for suggestions!
I like Samsung. I use Dell. I use ViewSonic. I use NEC.

Worst case, I could use my 26in ViewSonic HDTV (720p)! But, then I
have to buy a new TV for the bedroom..................... :(

The driving PC is my 'Gamer.' It is a C2D E8400 w/2GB DDR3.
The video card is an nVidia 5900GT. Yes, I know this card is old,
long-of-tooth, but, I do not do serious gaming any more.

I still dabble with MSFlight Sim (old), Tomb Raider, MOH (old), Ghost
Recon (old), Serious Sam (old), Unreal (old), and Quake (old).
Tanks,
Duncan
