Greg,
Thank you for the reply. I understand. I've always like Samsung.
Interesting that they are into SSD's. Fine.
I'll go look for 'adapters' now. But, the 840 series looks good.
Interesting tosee that the devices are not shown in 1Kx IOPS and
1K OOPS. I get it. The world does move on.
Times have truly changed.

The answer to the original question is...it depends. Samsung has some SKUs
that include a 3.5 to 2.5 adapter, as does Intel and probably others--but
most SKUs do not. However, you can use any $2 adapter. Or, you can literally
tape them to the bottom of the case--they're light, are not harmed by shock,
and usually have no exposed circuitry, so they don't really need a hard
mount. I have some that are screwed in, and others that are literally just
free-floating in the case. Others are attached by one screw to a 5.25 or
3.5" bay.

No - the premature 840 / 840 Pro failures were traced back to pre-release
(e.g., for review/early evaluation) drives running pre-release firmware.
Samsung has stated that the issue was resolved prior to shipping
firmware,
and there have not been any reports of failures of retail drives despite
having been available now for several weeks.

See Anand's follow-up:

At this point, there's no reason to avoid the 840 series.

I hope your SF drive continues to operate error-free, but having been
burned
badly by Indilinx, I'll stick with those with proven track records.

The samsung 840 series seem to be dying. Read the Anandtech article.
   Stick with the 830.

I'm super happy with my Sandforce Sandisk Extreme drive.

Should I choose to do SSD, do current (2012) SSD drives come to me
with hdw to install in a 3.5in HD aluminum cage?
Wondering.
