Be aware that Messianic Judaism by Carol Harris-Shapiro, which was recommended, gives a good picture of what messianics believe and practice, but that it also concludes that there is no valid way to exclude messianic Judaism from "authentic" Judaism. As I recall, this conclusion was made clear in the author's final chapter.
