This comes as a huge shock. I had the great pleasure of meeting Žilvinas at several AJL Annual Conferences. I found him very friendly, warm, down-to-earth, and so knowledgeable, not only about Lithuanian culture and history, but about Jewish bibliography, literature, history, and culture in general. I also had the honor of moderating two sessions at which he was a presenter and found him very cooperative and easy to work with. I regret that I never had the occasion to travel to Vilna and meet with him on his home turf and in his element. I will miss him a great deal. My condolences to his family, friends, and colleagues. May his memory be for a blessing.
