Hi,
I also finished reading it (although in a little bit of hurry) and I also
thing some ideas there are present an interesting angle of view and some
rearrangement of responsibilities might be a thing to consider. I liked the
description of BSD ans SysV init which were pretty in-depth. On the other
hand the description of SMF could be a little more detailed. More
importantly, the description of the proposed service manager for HelenOS
seemed rather superficial to me. This was surprising for me as it is
expected that the description in the thesis would be detailed enough to
stand on its own, without having to actually read the code. In other words
after reading the text, I had no idea how the service manager worked
internally, only how its external interfaces looked like (rather like those
of systemd).
I am still planning to give it a try and to look at the code more closely.
Cheers,
Jiri

Ok, I've finished reading the thesis yesterday. It's always interesting
to read how other people understand and interpret HelenOS and it is also
very nice to get a good overview of a the state of the art in the
studied field.
In the thesis, I liked the idea of the task manager and splitting it
from the NS. And also the suggested idea that NS will become somewhat
unnecessary afterwards because of locsrv.
When I tried the branch a little more, I enjoyed the possibility to
start and stop services and also to shut the system down.
