Hello Ard and Jasha,
is is this image reader used just to serve images in different sizes, or
it is used to save resized images in repository. I am asking this to
know if I should implement automatic resizing (and saving into
repository), or it can be somehow configured ?

Yes this is done for showing the binary thumbnails IIRC in the cms.
You should to find where this is done (in which sitemap). It is just
some generator or transformer that does this for you.
