Hello Methanol is added to reagent alcohol (ethyl alcohol) so that people do not use for drinking purpose and for tax purposes. Alcohol (ethyl alcohol) has federal tax just like liquor. One can buy pure alcohol, but you have keep inventory and make sure it is not misused. Bader
