As far as I know you'd have to be VERY lucky to do this with WON. Yes I do know what it is like for this to happen - I bought Q3 the first day it was on the shelf in NZ - invalid CD key (I presume it was generated) - I never got to play Q3 online (I didn't know what to do about the situation back then).
