IIRC this was to do with FreeBSD not honouring SO_NOSIGPIPE
within the linux ABI. This wasn't specific to the update tool however,
it was large rcon requests, but it might still be the cause.

I've attached the modified version of the patch which will apply to
5.4-RELEASE

Note: it is fixed in 6.0 apparently.
