Can you (and everyone else that downgrades and experiences a fix for the problem) post the .config for both kernels? Perhaps we can find just what is causing this.
Also, it would be nice if Valve would tell us the kernel version on their build/test hosts. Perhaps along with glibc- and gcc versions?
