Tom, Yes, it was the Robert Helps Trio. I have a Xerox of that piece that Helps gave me back around 1986 when he was in residence up here at the LHSOM. It was a nice piece, but I don't know if it was ever published.

It was a piece by Robert Helps, and I recall that it was a very fine work, well written for all three instruments and quite challenging. I do not know if it ever has been published. I think that I have a manuscript copy (somewhere). Sometimes these kinds of direct attempts can actually work. Not too long ago I was puzzled about the trumpet parts on the Chicago Symphony recording of 'La Mer', around rehearsal 70 that are missing from most recordings. So on a whim I dashed off an email to the CSO using an email address at their website. Within 5 minutes I got an email back from the CSO librarian, that started 'I just happen to have the 2nd trumpet player standing next to me, and he says... blah blah blah.' I now have some theories about those missing trumpet melodies for later posts. Bob Dickow Lionel Hampton School of Music -----Original Message----- <snip>...
