We know about Wagner, that he visited the Krupp steel factory & others to learn about the sound of a metal working hall to be used for his Nibelheim, where the Nibelungs worked on gold & silver; he also visited a blacksmith to know about the "black art", he needed to know about for Siegfried act 2 finale - Hojotoho hei !
And Richard Strauss in his Ein Heldenleben ?
