It has nothing to do with the life that Wagner led. It has to do with the mockery of the institution of marriage which is depicted in Wagner's work. Wagner and Mendelssohn's works are quite well crafted, but the mere purpose of the music being written for the fictional drama makes it quite inappropriate for such a meaningful event. I would try writing Bach's Air in G or Corelli's Sonata in F second movement. Better still, how about the Mozart Quintet slow movement? Andrew Proctor
