Was it the Halle Orchestra in Manchester who once, performing the 1812, saved the expense of cannon and explosions by giving every member of the audience a paper bag, complete with instructions on how to blow it up and after a short rehearsal, trained them to burst the bag at the appropriate point in the concert.
