That is truly what the world needs today, a revival of the Hoffnung
Festivals.

Was it the Halle Orchestra in Manchester who once,  performing the  1812, 
saved the expense of  cannon and explosions by giving every  member of the 
audience a paper bag, complete with instructions on how to blow it  up and
after a 
short rehearsal, trained them to burst the bag at the  appropriate point in
the 
concert.
 
And, of course, we all know the Hoffnung version with pop-guns and  bells.
