Of course the truth of it is that all horns are pretty much hand made, start to
finish. As Ken Pope pointed out in his response the Custom line was probably
assembled by one master, start to finish. The so-called factory-made horns are
really made on an assembly line, although hand assembled. Each part or set of
parts is assembled or formed by a technician whose job is to complete those,
and only those, parts. Complete assembly is a team effort. Other distinctions
exist in the construction and finishing of parts, but let's not get too
technical. I think that the name "Custom" pretty much says it all. I believe
there is a real difference in the construction of the 800-series as compared to
any other series I've seen, and in the sound, too. So for the 667V, hand-made,
yes to a very large degree, but probably not by one and only one master
technician.

Is it certain that the 667v is not as hand made as the 861? Inst the bell one
piece, not two?

Okay, Dave and Tom - you win. The more I get into this discussion the
differences that I acknowledge are indeed greater than I at first thought.
Airstream direction is certainly a major difference, and after looking at a
catalog photo of the 667V I realize that the F branch is wound more differently
than on a "regular" Geyer style. As far as the difference between custom and
professional, I would have to go with Dave W. and believe that the custom
series
was perhaps more hand built/assembled rather than machine mass produced.
