Hi John, I'd say this is kind of what Missing Maps is...

The only slight difference is that a lot of the places we are mapping are
very much mid crisis - it's just that they're not in the news...

I come across a lot of confusion around HOT and Missing Maps and the
relationship between the two. For me, the fundamental thing about the
relationship is that the NGOs that benefit from HOT's work use their
volunteer bases, communications power and field experience to help scale
the HOT community so that there is enough high quality capacity to respond
to major media emergencies and forgotten, ongoing crises.

The people that come to the mapathons we put on rarely come from a mappy
background. They mostly start off as complete beginners. I think they are
the NGO supporters you're talking about...
